Jason and I got engaged :)
It was such a great night and I couldn't be more thrilled!

He did it on stage at a piano bar, I was surprised to say the least. Two of our very close friends helped him get it together (and were there to shoot some photos) and having the other 80 people there was fun too. Lots of cheers and celeberatory shots (not so much fun the next morning)

Father's Day Ideas

Father's day is my "the year is half over" mark, and I am having the hardest time believing it's just 5 days away. WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?!

Ok, I'm done panicking (for now).

For anyone looking for a unique way to say Happy Father's Day, here are a few of my favorite ideas!

The first one comes from one of my favorite places in blog land to visit, Giver's Log. Amberlee is amazing and if you haven't been over to visit her, I would wait until you have a few hours to just sit and soak in her awesomeness.

I guess I am becoming more southern than I ever thought I would be because the idea of BBQ in a Jar, had me from "hello".

It's so easy and what dad doesn't love FOOD!
Start with a pair of wide mouth jars, and add a layer of baked beans, followed by a layer of cole slaw, topped off with pulled pork!

Add a pickle and a jar of homemade lemonade and ta-dah!

Besides food, what else do most dad's love? Their CAR! Thanks to Martha, you can now make a bucket full of car wash supplies look crazy stylish.

Throw in a book of coupon for "free car washes by >insert your name here<" and you have yourself a useful gift he is sure to love.

Just a quick update on what's new with me:

I have been bitten by the summer bug and have wanted to spend no extra time at the computer (after spending 8 hours in front of it for my day job.) I have spent the last 3 weekends at the beach and it has been an absoulte TREAT! The weather has been awesome and I have the "I can be lazy, it's the summer" attitude like you wouldn't believe.

Also, I am putting ever spare penny I have to get my car paid off before Halloween (2 1/2 years early whoo-hoo!) so I haven't really had much money to throw at new projects at the moment. Hopefully once I get that taken care of and I am swimming in cash(HA), things will start happening around our casa again. Until then, one thing I have been doing is keeping busy with my Etsy shop.

So, I have no tip for you today. Sad. I just didn't have time to get anything together for this week. The weekend was beautiful and I didn't spend 1 minute in front of a computer screen all weekend, and it was GLORIOUS.

And as of yesterday I am cranking out an 11 monogrammed beer mug custom order for my Etsy shop, so my time is a little limited as of the moment.

I will be back this week to talk more about my adventures with The Shred and fill you in on how it's going, and whether or not I recommend it!

The Shred

On December 28, 2009, Jason and I decided that we had totally fallen into our "honeymoon" phase of living together. We both packed on the pounds and at the end of the year, after eating nothing but fudge for some meals (that is not even in the slightest way an exaggeration) , we were sick (literally) and tired of being heavier then we once were.

So we joined the gym that day and set our goal weights and our goal date, May 1, 2010.

We weighed in once a week and tracked our efforts on a little spreadsheet that we kept stuck to our fridge. With it now being May 12th, the results are in and we both kicked our goals in the moneymaker and lost 75 pounds combined (56 for him and 19 for me). We are both thrilled and so proud of ourselves, and each other, that we were able to accomplish our weight goals the good old fashion weigh (<-- get it?) :)

Now, I do not by any means think that I am fat, or anything of the sort. I actually think I am pretty fit for my age, but I am looking for more tone. I want to be able to walk around and not jiggle in places that once did not.

This work out DVD came out in 2007 (a tad late I know), and contains 3-20 minute work out sessions, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3. The sessions are based on her 3-2-1 method of circuit training. 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 minute of abs. I love Jillian on the Biggest Loser and was thrilled to get the chance to bring her into my living room. I went to Amazon (the place I go for the best reviews on the web), and over 1,800 people have given this DVD 4.5 stars. People are seriously happy with this thing. So I decide to scope out some blogs with peoples results for this work out. These are some of the comments I read:

"but LO! THE PAIN. DEAR GOD THE PAIN"

"after my first attempt at Level 1 I was in pain, dude! PAIN. My legs were burning like they haven't in years"

"there is a muscle in my upper arms that I never knew existed but is now screaming in pain and has requested abdication from the rest of my body"

"the first attempt left me so crumpled and sore that I couldn't even roll over in bed without wincing for nearly a week"

"y’all, when those twenty minutes were over, my leg muscles were so exhausted that my very first thought was I’ll never walk normally again"

SAY WHAT? OK, maybe I'm getting in a little over my head. The scarier part is, 90% of the people who use this DVD, react the same way. From the sound of it, this may be the most painful thing on the planet, well maybe the second most...

So all day yesterday I was stoked to pick up this DVD at Target (yes, still, after all of that...$9 for an ass whopping so bad I wish I could sleep until August? 'eh why not).

I got home, pulled out my 3 pound weights out, slipped on my Mizunos, popped in the DVD, and played Level 1. As I was watching the intro, I was assured I could skip the warm seeing as my heart was already pounding from pure fear. I kept telling my self "you survived 2 hour session, 2-a-days in 105 degree heat, with one leg, and no water for a week (1/3 of that statement is true). NO WAY, this can even rank on the hard physical activities list."

I got started and turns out, I loved it. Basic, tried and true moves, packed together with no rest to get the most out of the 20 minutes. Lots of push ups, squats and jumping jacks and other fun things (not).

The Result: When I first got done my legs felt pretty jell-o-y, and my heart rate was up, and I had some condensation on my forehead, but nothing major yet. I woke up this morning and didn't make any sudden movements fearing I would whale out in pain. But I didn't...at all. I was not in the least bit sore. I'm shocked.

Am I just in better shape then these women? Is my body so used to a squat that it doesn't even phase me anymore? Yes I have been working out on and off for a while now, and I try to do squats in the elevator at work, and do planks during my lunch hour but still, I am a LAZY exerciser and can not believe that I am not sore.

I kind of feel let down. Maybe I secretly wanted to feel the agony these women felt, the agony of accomplishment.

I am going to try Level 2 today when I get home from work and hope that tomorrow morning it hurts to smile.

I will keep you posted. Also debating some before/after shots, but my before shot is in my bra and underoos so I'm not sure I'm ready to share all of that. Maybe I'll snap another quick one today of me in a bathing suit... well see!

I don't have any kids, but I think every other single person we know is either pregnant or has a child under 6 months. So, with that, I thought I would share a littler pointer I picked up recently.

Today Tip: Making and freezing your own baby food.

Not only is this a healthier option, and gives you all the control (who doesn't love to have ALL the control) of what goes into your babies tummy.

There are tons resources online to give you great recipes including wholesomebabyfood.com and simplybabyfoodrecipes.net.

So, you have a blender full of pureed sweet potatoes, now what?

Pour your puree into an ice cube tray! Each cube slot is approx 1 oz, so you will have accurate measurements and less waste. Cover the try with plastic wrap and freeze. Once frozen, transfer cubes to freezer safe bag and label with recipe and date. It is recommended to only allow baby food to be frozen for around 3 months.

At night before bed, take out needed portions for the following day and place them into air tight serving containers to thaw in the fridge. The next day, you will have your wholesome food ready to go for your little one.

If you take your child to day care, you can either thaw the night before like stated above, and pack it in a mini cooler to take to day care, or you can pack the frozen cubes in the morning to thaw in the fridge that day.

I know if I had a 6-18 month old I would so be doing this. And if you have your own garden, the cost is extremely minimal.

Newly Inspired

Hello? Anybody still out there?

Yes, I admit, I have neglected my little blog for a few weeks, but I love it just the same as I always have. The combination of a creative rut, and beautiful weather have really put a damper on my to-do list. I did actually repaint my patio set, I just have no photographic proof! I pinky swear I did it :)

I don't know if I have ever divulged my day job to you guys, but I am a meeting planner at a conference center. And as much as I enjoy what I do, I guess everyone can fall victim to the 8-5 monotony syndrome. Luckily, my job has great perks. One of those is, they allow me to be a member of the International Special Events Society (ISES)

I get to attend monthly meetings that cover all sorts of topic about the world of event planning. The April event was one I will remember for a very long time.

A wedding planner extraordinaire from California, Sasha Souza, came to speak at our ISES chapter meeting at the end of April. It.....was.....amazing! Sasha has been featured in (over 60) publications such as

She has also been a featured event planner on Style Networks, "Whose Wedding is it Anyway?" and was named one of Modern Brides Top 25 Trendsetters. Her event company, Sasha Souza Events, has received numerous awards such as Special Events magazine Gala Award, ISES Westie Awards & the Event Solutions Magazine Designer of the Year Award.

Needless to say, the woman is brillant. And she is as good a speaker as she is designer. I was BLOWN AWAY with her presentation, mood boards, and out of the box thinking.

She shared some great information on color. One that I thought was particularly interesting in regards to home design. She said when Pantone releases their Color of the Year, watch for it to stick around for 3. People wear it in one (fashion will use the Color of the Year, THAT year). People decorate it in two (watch for those colors to take over home decor the following year). People marry it in three (those colors will be all the rage for weddings in 3 years).

She showed some really awesome examples, which sadly I can't replicate, where she compared Pantone's 2007 color, to a Pier One catalogue in 2008, to a wedding she did in 2009, and the color palette was identical. Which means, this years home decor color would be Mimosa, which I can totally vouch for since I have had my eye on a set of pillows in Home Goods of this exact color since February.

A Lost Piece of History

Ever curious about the history of Hellmann's Mayonnaise? Well, even if you aren't, your going to find out now.

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England . In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York . This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico . But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as -

This week's tip revolves around finances! (chirp, chirp).

You know, when I first tried getting a credit card it took me a long while before someone would give me one. I have never been more thankful for that because God knows I would still be paying off the damage I could have done with a credit card in college!

When I met Jason 2 years ago, one of the first things I learned from him was how to get a grip on my finances. I had maybe $800 on my credit card and that was literally all the debt I had, but I was not doing anything about it. I was still spending money on other nonsense and not taking care of the things I had already purchased. I needed to become financially fit and knowledgeable before I dug myself a hole I would struggle to get out of.

He introduced me to this man:

Today's tip: The overview of the 7 Baby Steps of Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover.

Step 1: Establish $1,000 in an emergency fund.
That's it. You need to get the money moving to other areas before you start saving it. You have obligations to things you have already paid for, now it's time to pay them off. This will be enough to cover an unexpected trip the repair shop, or a flight home for a family emergency. THIS IS FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY.

Step 2: Pay off all debt except your home, beginning with the smallest
If you have a credit card with $500, a student loan for $7,000 and a car loan for $3,000, start with the credit card. It is important to build confidence in paying off debt. If you tried to tackle your largest first, you wouldn't see results right away, leading to ALOT more time to get discouraged. Start small, remember, baby steps.

Step 3: Three to six months of savings in a fully funded emergency fund.
At this point you are debt free (minus the your house) and you are having the cash flow you have worked so hard for. Now, it's time to start putting money toward the future, so you can prevent becoming in debt again. THIS IS ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES. Do not start paying off your house, or investing in retirement, or throwing money into your kid's college fund. You need to have this cushion.

Step 4: Invest 15% of your household income into Roth IRAs and pre-tax retirement plans.
Now that you have 6 months worth of income reserved, you can start to place your money elsewhere. Like most parents, you want to put your kids first. In this case, DON'T. Do not sacrifice your retirement fund to fund college. There will be a time when you reach retirement age and there is nothing you can do about that. There are other avenues for college such as scholarships, part-time jobs, etc. Think about it, if you put your money into college for your children and not for retirement, you will more then likely have to be depending on your children in your later years, a situation neither of you really want.

Step 5: College Funding
Anything after the 15% of income going towards your retirement can now go to the college fund for your wonderful children!

Step 6: Pay off your home early. (and the helicopter haha)
After your college fund is established, start kicking that money to your mortgage.

Step 7: Build wealth and give.
Life is good. You are now debt free with your home paid off. All of that money you were once using to fund those things are now at your disposal. Keep investing in your retirement, and remember to give back :)

If you want to read more about this process, I highly recommend his book, or there are tons of websites that go over his theory. I am personally still working on Step 2 (since I bought a car) but hope to have it paid off by the end of 2010, which is 2/12 years early!

I am SO excited :) Tomorrow I will be heading to my home state of Maryland to attend one of my best girls wedding! My dear friend Amanda, quiet possibly one of the sweetest people to ever walk this earth, is tieing the knot on Friday and I couldn't be more honored to be a part of her special day!

Welcome to another installment of HATT!

This one isn't so much a tip, as a discussion topic. We are in full force wedding season and I have 2 coming up to attend in the next 3 weeks. From what I got from the formal, novel-esque invitations, these will run as "traditional" weddings. This got me thinking. In 2010, does the word "traditional" still mean the same thing in terms of weddings?

Whether it's who pays for what, should the groom not see the bride before the ceremony, seating arrangments or what have you, what needs to stay and what needs to go for a modern day wedding?

Pretty Pretty Placemats

The lovely woman who sits at the front desk of our office building divulged to me her husbands DIRE love of the UNC Tarheels. Born and raised a Maryland Terrapin fan, I just don't get it :). Nonetheless, she saw a set a place mats that I made, and asked if I would make her some for her husbands birthday. Place mats for a guy on his birthday? I'm telling you, the man LOVES Carolina.

I documented the process for you. I'm not going to lie, this is a pretty time consuming task and I did it over a few days time. Because honestly, after working a full time job, an hour commute to and from work, making dinner, and watching American Idol (haha), I just don't have the time to finish big projects in a day!

Stuff you'll need to get started (minus a few things I forgot to photograph-oops)

A yard of any color burlap
fabric remnants
craft paint
foam brush
stencil (I did mine on my Cricut. Not needed if you have painting skills)
**E6000
**anything you want to use as the flower center, I used little gems
**spray adhesive
**lighter

You will be able to get 4, 9x13in place mats from a yard of fabric.
First, just cut out all 4 rectangles. This is probably the most time consuming part. Burlap is kinda hard to cut straight if you aren't being really meticulous.

If you want to make a fringe on the burlap, just start pulling the little strands on the end out on all sides and it will make a nice border.

Take the scrap fabric and cut 6-8 circles starting with one about 5 inches in diameter. I used 2 colors here, but of course you could use whatever you like. Any thin, liner type fabric will do. Then take the lighter and just slightly singe the edges. I couldn't photograph this part for obvious reasons, but here is what they should look like.

stack them all together and you get this:

Then just take a needle and thread and sew the flower to the burlap.

Take your little flower center and the E6000, and glue it to the flower.

Next, take your spray adhesive and spray the back of the stencil. Lay it into place, and using the foam brush, start just dabbing paint.

Peel off while still wet, and your done!

I love them, she loves them and I have my fingers crossed her husband loves them! Anyone else out there ventured into place mat making territory? Would love to hear thoughts on the experience!

First of all, let me lay a little disclaimer on you. I am not a follower of Dr. Oz. To be completely honest, I don't know very much about him at all. But I ran across this article yesterday and with bathing suit season nealy upon us, I thought I would share the goods. Again, I'm not a Dr. Oz advocate, but even the lay man knows this is common sense, good advice! Small changes everyday, add up to big changes over time.

1. Thou Shalt Not Wear Pants that Stretch
Your clothing is an early-warning system for weight gain. When it’s getting hard to snap your jeans, you know it’s time to be vigilant. Wearing stretchy clothes allows you to live in ignorance of how your body is growing, making it easier to pack on pounds without knowing it.

2. Thou Shalt Not Keep Bad Clothes in Your Closet
When you keep the clothes you wore at an unhealthy weight, it gives you a back-up plan if the pounds don’t come off. Instead, force yourself to stay on track by 86ing your “fat pants.”

3. Thou Shalt Not Eat Meat That Walks on Four Legs More Than Once a Week
Meat that comes from an animal with 4 legs is higher in saturated fat (the unhealthy kind) than that which comes from 2-legged animals such as chickens, or animals with no legs, like fish. Plus: women who eat large amounts of red meat more than once a week have a 50% higher chance of dying from heart disease and have higher cancer rates.

4. Thou Shalt Not Graze
Plan your meal before you open the refrigerator, get what you need, and close the door. Opening it throughout the day leads to impulsive choices and overeating.

5. Thou Shalt Not Eat After 7:30pm
When you eat late at night you are more likely to be eating in front of the TV (when you won’t pay attention to how much you’re putting in your mouth) and you’re more likely to pick high-calorie snacks.

6. Thou Shalt Not Pile Food More than 1 Inch High or Within 2 Inches of the Plate Edge
Larger portions equal more calories. ‘Nuff said.

7. Thou Shalt Not Chew Food Less than 20 Times Per Bite
Chewing allows your body to realize that you are eating food, prompting it to create a sensation of fullness at the appropriate time. When you don’t chew enough, you get ahead of that process, eating well past when you are actually satisfied.

8. Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor’s Plate
Spend your day nibbling bites on someone else’s sandwich or afternoon snack, and you will add on 1,000 calories easy.

9. Thou Shalt Not Carry Small Bills
Nothing loves a small bill better than a vending machine. When you have them at the ready, you are one step closer to an impulsive, calorie-loaded afternoon slip up.

10. Thou Shalt Not Eat While Standing Up
Eating sitting down enables you to be aware of what you’re eating and eat it slowly so that your body can tell you your full before it’s too late.

Georgia On My Mind

Ever notice how sometimes it takes bad circumstances for you to actually get around to doing something? That was the case behind this "vacation". Sparing you the downer details, we headed to where Jason is from (VERY small town Georgia) on Thursday afternoon. This had been something he said he wanted to do for a while, and even though it wasn't on the best terms, I am so very happy we went.

Seeing where someone spent their childhood is really a transforming experience. Especially when it is a complete 180 from how you grew up. I was surrounded by cookie cutter houses, block parties, soccer fields and skating rinks, while he climbed on tractors to pass the time and could stare at farmland for miles. I always heard stories about how simply and down home he grew up, but my "All American" suburbian mind didn't really comprehend the extent of what rural Georgia really was.

(the fact that we are driving on a paved road was a fete in itself)

After a few days in Vidalia(yes, where the onions come from), we headed east towards Savannah. About this time last year I made my first visit to Savannah and I'm telling you right now, if you have never been, mark your calender. It's in the Top Ten cities to visit in the US and for very good reason. It is rich in history, BEAUTIFUL, and there are a ton of amazing things to do there. The buildings in this city are the prettiest I have had the chance to see in person, and here are some pictures of the amazing architecture. I think they speak for themselves :)

Savannah is more than just pretty buildings. The landscape is stunning and the history is prevalent.

We also went to Tybee Island for part of the afternoon on Sunday.

It was one of the most exhausting trips I have ever taken. We had a ball and we ate until we were sick, but hey, it's vacation. But like they say, there's no place like home :)

Amanda filled us in on more lemony goodness: "Just the other day, I learned if you cut a lemon in half, dip it in salt, you can scrub your pots with them and they'll look shiny & new!"

Regan added: "Lemon~ freeze left over rind for a quick way to clean and deodorize your garbage disposal."**

On to this weeks HATT!

Last weekend Jason bought a massive, 140lb box. 3 hours later, a brand new commercial series, infrared, something-rather, grill was born. And I can't wait to sink my teeth into a piece of beef that has done some time on this baby (how to vegetarians do it?!?).

So, it seems fitting that with my mind on the grill, that I pass along a few tips about said topic.

Whenever barbecuing, use tongs to turn the meat. A fork should never be used as it will punch holes in the meat and allow the natural juices to escape, causing the meat to lose flavor and become chewy. Turning only once during cooking time is recommended.

When grilling corn, baste with butter or olive oil just as you would baste grilled meats.

Tomato and/or sugar based BBQ sauces should be added only at the end of the grilling process since these products burn easily.

Use leftover pineapple rind as "wood chips" when making tropical dishes.

Have some of this on hand at all times, (I use it on everything even in rice and on baked potatoes):

BBQ Rub:
1/4 firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup sweet paprika
3 TBSP black pepper
4 TBSP coarse salt
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp celery seed
1 tsp cayenne pepper

Welcome to another HATT! The weeks are just flying by, and I'm ready for the warm weather to stick around.

Today I will go over some creative uses for 3 everyday household items.

THE DRYER SHEET

Keep bugs away: Tuck some in your pocket or under lawn furniture to repel bees and other insects
In the kitchen: Soak cookware with burnt or baked-on food in warm water, with a dryer sheet or two. Makes clean-up a breeze. Also works on cook tops.
Clean paint brushes: Soak your used paintbrushes in warm water with a dryer sheet, and that pesky latex paint will come off in no time.
In toilet paper: Roll up a dryer sheet in your toilet paper roll. Each time you spin, it releases a little freshness into your bathroom.

THE LEMON

Cleaning the microwave: Popping popcorn or cooking something with a strong odor in the mircowave can really leave its mark. Once you have sprayed down and wiped off excess loose dirt, add a cup of water with a few slices of lemon. Heat for 4 minutes on high. Remove and wipe excess dirt once again. Add a fresh cup of water with a few slices of lemon and heat for another 3 minutes. The microwave should be as good as new!
Garlic be gone: After chopping fresh garlic, rub your hands with a cut lemon. I also like i sprinkle my fingers with baking soda or Kosher salt before I use the lemon. The smell of garlic on my hands drives me crazy!
Sanitize a chopping block: Run a slice of lemon over the surface to disinfect.

ALKA-SELTZER

Clean jewelry: Drop your dull-looking jewelry in a glass of fizzing Alka-Seltzer for a couple of minutes. It will sparkle and shine when you pull it out.
Unclog a drain: Drop a couple of Alka-Seltzer tablets down the opening, then pour in a cup of vinegar. Wait a few minutes and then run the hot water at full force to clear the clog. This is also a good way to eliminate drain odors.
Clean your toilet: Believe it or not it is an effective toilet bowl cleaner too. Drop a couple of tablets into the bowl for 20 minutes or so. When you return, a few swipes with a toilet brush will leave your bowl gleaming.

We Will Revive! (a Cornhole game)

("as long as we know how to paint, I know we will revive!" WOW, funny what a Monday morning can do to a person. Anywho...)

Why it's called Cornhole is unknown (and ridiculous to me) but it doesn't change the fact that this simple backyard game is awesome.

If you've never heard of it, all it is, is a basic bean bag toss game. 2 teams, each with 2 players, stand behind 2 wooden boards and toss bean bags into the hole of the opposing team’s board.

Now to the point. Our friend Kerri is a lover of both East Carolina University (ECU) and Cornhole. She came to me with the idea of making our own game boards. You can buy these boards all over the internet for close to $200. Like any thrifty DIY gal, I decided we could totally do it for ALOT less.

After some research about the regulation dimensions of the boards (this is serious folks) we planned a weekend to dive in head first. Well, as luck would have it, just a little over a week ago, I was at the beach and Jason and I drove in close to 9pm. We were about to turn onto the street where the house is, and like a shining light, there on the side of the road, was a set of Cornhole boards! Now, there was a reason they were abandoned.

Again, this is a game where you throw bean bags. If it was a game where you threw something like rocks, this might be suitable. I imagine their board tore up their beanbags pretty badly.

So we scooped ‘em up and decided to give them a new life. This was a HUGE plus and cut out about half of the projected cost. All that had to be bought new was 2 top board (1/2 plywood), spray paint, and the decals. Now, on to the overhaul.

They must have used regular latex paint and a blindfold when they first painted these things. Either that, or they just dunked them into the can.

The lazy, I want to get to the fun part, side of me just wanted to paint over this disaster. But, given I had a few minutes before Kerri arrived, I decided to get a head start on the BORING sanding task.

When she arrived she got right to work... at this point my hands were killing me so I was happy to become the photographer.

After almost 2 hours (I told you the paint job was AWFUL), we had the sides at least smoothed down enough for them to take a nice even coat of spray paint.

Next up, trim the boards down a little bit and drill the holes. Kerri is a bit of a rookie at the DIY stuff so she lent Jason a hand. She decided that now she MUST have a chalk box. You know, who doesn't need a chalk box?

Then Jason removed the old boards and we were left with this- (and again, Stella had to squeeze her way in)

The new boards went on next (we got excited and started painting too soon!)

Finally, time for paint, each board got 2 good coats of black outdoor spray paint

I got to use my Cricut for this project as well. I cut out 2 phrases "No Quarter!" and "No Fear!" to go on each of the boards. After all our hard work spray painting, we wanted to ensure we didn't mess it up.

They got 3 very light coats of white spray paint to ensure no drips!

After a few minutes of drying, time for the big reveal!

Ok, maybe not yet. Showing you now would take the fun out of it :)
Then on went the decals. Nothing fancy, just a basic peel and transfer decal.

Done! Now you can see :)

She loves them! I love them! We all love them! The bean bags are on their way and I can image we will get plenty of use out of them this summer. This isn't the last you'll see of us sticking it to the very overpriced Cornhole man. Keep an eye out for a second DIY set (completely from scratch) in the next couple weeks. We have to have a Georgia set for our house of course :)

Welcome to another HATT!

I could eat an entire can of chocolate icing with an entire box of graham crackers and consider it a well balanced meal. What's that you say? I could double the amount of frosting from that little can?

Thats right!

All you need to do it whip it for a few mintues in a mixer and you can double it in size. Not only will you be able to frost more cupcakes (or graham crackers) with the same jar, there will be less sugar and calories per serving. And who ever thought that more chocolate icing=less calories. Have I died and gone to heaven?

I NEED this cake pan.

** Forgot my camera at work last night so I didn't even get to take any pictures but I tell you what, I made 24 of the cutest little Green Velvet Cupcakes, got them all liberally frosted and had some to spare!

Okay, well the surprise in question is no longer in question, and it didn't turn out the way I wanted. Guess that means it's just not the right time for it! If you're curious, I was planning on buying a boat! One that I would finally be able to learn how to wake board on. The one we would spend many a summer night out on. I was heartbroken. But, there is a time for everything and now I'm looking forward to what's in store next!

I have found the toughest thing to coupon for is fresh meat. I just want to let you know, it can be done! The best part, NO COUPONS! Very simple. And this brings me to...

TODAY'S TIP:
THINK AHEAD. Do not, I repeat, do NOT say, "I think I'll make chicken tonight" and then proceed to the grocery store to pay some $4/lb for chicken breast. You are being R-O-B-B-E-D.
The solution, scan the meat case every time you are in the store, whether you are planning on buying meat or not. Trust me, I know I sound like the anti-couponer, but impulse buys for meat are the only ones that fly with me.
There is a catch of course. FYI: Never in a million years did I think a shot of raw meat would make it on my blog.

Those little orange stickers are the ticket.

You see there, this chicken was being sold at $4.99/lb last week, no freaking wonder it's still sitting on the shelf.
Do you also see the Sell By date? It's the 22nd. I bought these on the 21st and they are now nestled happily in my freezer, and my money nestled happily in my pocket.

Not convinced?

How about a Pot Roast for a family of 4? Or for just Jason and I and then 3 lunches for me during the week?

Let me tell you, it was yummy. I crock-potted it yesterday with potatoes and carrots.

The moral of the story:
Look for meat that is going out of date within a day or so. Take it home and freeze it so when you do want to cook it, you aren't forced to pay what the store is asking for it that week.
I'm just saying.

Almost Spring Fever

Spring, for me, seems more like the right time to make changes and resolutions than January 1. Just something about the first warm days of the year when you can walk to the mailbox barefooted, or take the dog out without having to put a coat on. Don't even get me started on Daylight Savings. Picnik in the Winter? Oh yes...

And by Picnik I don't mean the kind with the hot sticky weather and ants in your pants. I mean Picnik, the amazing photo editing website that I have fallen in love with. It is free to use the basic editing but it is only $24 for the year if you want all the premium stuff. It took me all of 15 mintues playing with it to know I HAD TO HAVE the premium goods.

I'm still pretty new at it, but I wanted to see what it could really do so I worked on a picture from yesterdays post for my Spicy Black Bean Soup.

Here's a Tip Tuesday!

Welcome to another HAAT! This one is plain and simple... MAKE THIS SOUP! It's cheap, healthy and yummy!

SPICY BLACK BEAN SOUP
Here's what you need (I doubled this batch so my photos will show double what the recipe truly calls for)

2 TBSP extra virgin olive oil
1 medium to large onion
2-3 cloves of garlic (I use jarred garlic for this recipe, so maybe a TBSP? I'm not the best with measurements, but has too much garlic ever hurt anyone?)
1 cup chicken broth
2 cans, undrained, black beans (I use the reduced sodium kind so I can add the salt to my liking)
1 cup salsa (thanks Brianne)
1 TBSP cumin
1 TBSP cayenne pepper (we like ours spicy but this can be adjusted to your taste. Start off with less if you don't like things too spicy, and add more later)
salt to taste

First, heat up a the olive oil in a big pot over medium-medium high heat
Then, add the onion and heat until translucent

Then add garlic and heat for about 30 seconds

Then mix in the cumin and the cayenne, and heat for another 30 seconds

Add 1 can of black beans and the chicken broth

Bring to a boil

Now take an emerson blender (I didn't have one the first few times I made this, and just ladeled it into a blender in 2 batches, no biggie) and blend until smooth

Add 2nd can of beans

Add salsa

Give it a taste, and add salt and/or cayenne pepper to get it how you like it. If you use full salt black beans you probably wouldn't need any extra salt.

Return to a boil

Turn off heat and let it sit a thicken for a few minutes, and serve!
I like mine with tortilla chips!

Those little Kerr canning jars are the perfect serving size, and they are great to grab and go for lunch.

The Writings on the Pillow... literally

I can't sew. I have a great new sewing machine from my boyfriend's mom, but I haven't had any success with the self taught method. I am hoping next time we visit her (at the beach, just thought I would throw that in there), I will get a crash course.
Until then, I will buy pillows, or in this case, just buy a pillow slipcover. I got this one at Target for $4 a while back, and it's a great cover, just a little bland. It's currently in the guest room (still under decoration construction), and now it has a tad more pizazz. FYI: I didn't take a picture of the pillow case by itself, I'm easily excited and forget things! Oops :)

First, I got to use my brand new software, Sure Cuts Alot, for my Cricut. L-O-V-E. I just cut it on basic white card stock.

Then I sprayed the back of the card stock with this wonderful product. Works like a charm every time!

(believe it or not, we are NOT looking for a new place that isn't on the suns surface)
Pressed it into place

Using a foam brush and black fabric paint, started filling it in

Let it sit for a just a minute or 2. Didn't want the paint to crack when I peeled it off, so I removed it before the paint dried.

Here she is! I may add a graphic later on, but I wanted to make sure it was going to work before I got crazy. I really like it. It's sweet, simple and to the point.

I'm curious as to how you other non-sewers make your pillows special. Share your secrets :)

Time for a Tip!

Welcome back for another "HATT"!

TODAY'S TIP:
Have you ever gotten home a gorgeous glass, mirror, or picture and you are just itching to get your hands on it? If your reading this blog, the answer to that is probably yes. Now, how many of those times do you have a pesky price sticker that you wrestle with for WAY to long, only to leave a sticky, papery mess?
Here is the solution. Don't knock it until you try it, I know this sounds crazy!

First, of course, take your glass, mirror, etc...

Then take a peice of plastic wrap.

Run it under water (stick with me, I promise)

Make sure it's really wet, and fold it in half and place the wet wrap on the sticker. Give it a good pat down to cover the sticker really well.

Wait 3-5 mintues

Just pick up the plastic wrap and it's gone. Goo and all!

I'm way to excited to that little 10 second video, but it is my first one I've ever posted!!

From the outside looking in, blogging just sort of looks like an online journal documenting things like baby's first steps and family vacations. I have to admit, I used to be one of the outsiders. I never knew what really was behind it all until I began my "online journal" last October.

Sure, blogging is an amazing a way to document the things I'm doing at such a wonderful time in my life. And as long as the Internet exists (could you imagine? How else could I have found out who sings the song in the Kia commercial with the sock monkey and that red thing from Yo Gabba Gabba?) I will be able to look back with a smile on my face at the things I've accomplished and the kind words, strangers and friends alike, have said to me along the way. I know one day when I am old and gray, I will be grateful for every second I sat in front of the computer typing away.

But what the outsiders don't know, is how influential these .com's can be. I'm very passionate about this little piece of real estate I have here in Blogland, and I don't ask or expect anyone else to be. I LOVE to write, and I love to be creative and I've found this blog to be a great outlet for both. I am proud of the projects I have done, and of the information I have shared. But both of those pale in comparison to how proud I am to have inspired the people in my life to take a step outside the box and try something new. Receiving a text message with a photo of a monogrammed tote bag a friend had made (Renee it was perfect) or hearing stories of couponing success from people who had never thought twice about clipping a coupon (hey Kerri), truly make my day.

The one thing I never expected from this, was the amazing camaraderie. It is a remarkable thing to read comments and emails from people I have never met, who support me like we've been BFF's since the third grade. This feeling of sisterhood is actually what inspired me to write this post. My new friend Jan from Bobbypins Boardwalk (check out her master bedroom walls, thank me later), has been incredibly supportive and a huge inspiration. She wrote a post thanking me for a package I sent her, that I literally had to stop reading because it made me tear up. Not sure when I became such a huge wimp. Nonetheless, it made me realize that it doesnt matter if you were born decades apart, or live hundreds of miles away, we are all here for the same thing. We are here to share our stories, our successes, our failures, and our love of all things creative.

Thank you so much for accepting me into such a wonderful soriety, for taking the time to read my little blog, and for being such amazing and supportive people.

I'm so excited to be starting a series of posts! Mostly because, now I will always have something to post about... at least on Tuesday. :)

As mentioned in this post, I will kick off my "Here's a Tip" series with a little coupon knowledge. This will make my other new series "Weekly Deal Round-Up", more easily understood.

TODAY'S TIP 2/16/10:
First, let me start by saying that to take full advantage of the Weekly Deal Round-Up, you need to buy the Sunday paper for the biggest city around you. I live in a smaller town 40 minutes outside of Raleigh, but I get the Raleigh News and Observer, NOT my small town Sunday paper. They issue coupons regionally, and the values differ even from city to city around the same state.

Here we go: :) :)

This will be the format in which the Deal Round-Up will be posted. I will do my best to explain each abbreviation, and decode the deal for you.

This is how the deals will look:
Crest Pro-Health Enamel Shield Toothpaste or Rinse $3.50 = $3.50Ecb (Limit 2)
Use the $2/1 coupon from the 2/7 PG (good for any Crest rinse)
Final Cost FREE + a $2 moneymaker!

This is what they mean:

The BF and I have been wanting to take down the ugly, dated sliding glass doors that lead from our dining room into the sunroom, and the kitchen to the sunroom. After cancelled plans for the weekend due to snow, we (he) decided to tackle that very project.
First let me start by saying that the oyster shell shaped chair you see in these photos is not ours. We inheritied it and it will be heading to Goodwill after failing to sell on Craigslist. But for now, that's where it lives.

Obsessed with the Etch

I'm not sure why I am soooo in love with Armour Etch. It might be the classy sophistication a little lather of this stuff adds to any glass object in your home. Or maybe because of it's timeless subtlety, or unlike frosted glass spray paint, it can be washed with no problem. No matter the reason, it's something I will have in my arsenal at all times. Sadly, I have to get a new bottle today, and at Michael's, without a coupon, (who would be crazy enough to buy ANYTHING there without one?) the larger bottle is 30 bucks. Ouch.

We have a silent auction at work at the end of March benefiting the APS of Durham and the SPCA of Wake County. To me, this is just another wonderful excuse to roll up my sleeves and get crafty! I didn't want to donate something someone just "had", I wanted something someone could "use". (I have a point I promise, just stay with me!)

Enter my latest etching victim.

I decided to turn this little cutie into an indoor herb vase.
Here is what I used to get started:

-Cricut and cutting mat
-Vinyl (of course you don't NEED a Cricut to do this, painters tape and letter stickers would work just as well)
-Glass Vases
-Armour Etch
-Paint brush

First, I just used my Cricut to cut out a curved edge box, and letters to spell out the words Sage and Basil.

Then I applyed them to the glass vases. Getting the box even and the letters straight is the hardest part of this)

**I used painters tape on one because there wasn't much excess vinyl on the outside of the box. In case the etching cream ran, I wanted to make sure it wouldn't etch outside of the box.

Next, I just covered the box and letters with Armour Etch and let it sit for 20-25 mintues.

Finally, wiped the access etching cream off and gave it a good rub under a running facuet, took the vinyl off and... wah-la.

I am hoping to get more items in for the auction here in the next month! I'm also hoping someone actually bids on them :)

Ingredient Chaos

I am a novice cook/baker. And I mean N-O-V-I-C-E. I don't know one recipe by heart and can't convert any form of measurement. If the recipe said 30 tablespoons I would whip out my tablespoon and get to counting. Nonetheless, I have really come to enjoy my time in the kitchen.

Here is the dilemma. We have a HUGE pantry but it is only 4 shelves, and each shelf is close to 2 ft deep if not more. So while there is alot of space, things are easily hidden, and when I try to keep things up front where I can see them, chaos ensues. Let's just say, the "layered" look, doesn't work as nice in the pantry.

The bottom shelf is dedicated to all things baking/cooking. And when it comes to baking, no ingredient really takes precedent, so you have to have easy access to all of them. Enter my attempt to make things easier to find, less messy, and just overall prettier. This is a slow process and will get more containers as money allows.

Guest Room Update

Hope everyone is having a great weeekend! I'm stuck inside today since we got a few inches of snow and a full day of freezing rain/sleet. I know that doesn't sound like much, but the folks here in NC panic at the threat of snow. I had to run to Wal-Mart after work yesterday, and it was worse then Christmas Eve!

So, I thought I would share a little preview of the guest room. We had plans to go to Ikea today (3 hr drive to Charlotte), and that obviously didn't happen, so I am kind of at a stand still right now.

These are just a few shots of some of the fabric and textures being used. I can't wait for it to be done!

I have another little organizational project in the works, but need to make a trip to Lowes, so hopefully tomorrow!

Healthy Food Chat

Since I don't have sponsors and am not limited to what I can and can not blog about, I am going to divulge into my personal life for a second. December 28th, the BF and I started back at the gym and flipped our diet 180 degrees. (I know, we are super ambitious for starting 3 days before we are "supposed" to)

It has been a month (to the day) and I have already reached my goal weight (lost 12 pounds, which I feel I gained every ounce of from Halloween to Christmas), and the BF has dropped over 20 lbs! Yay for us. Hitting the gym 5-6 days a week, and cutting out basically all bad food for the past 30 days has been tough at moments, but the rewards have been great. I feel better, my energy has sky rocketed, and the mirror is a bit friendlier to me.

Now, I know that going cold turkey off of the foods I love is just a curse to gain all the weight back, so, since I have reached my goal, I am adding "bad" foods back in, but with a twist.

I discovered Hungry-Girl a little while back and I have seen her on numerous TV shows. She basically takes bad food that we all love, ie: onion rings, mashed potatoes, nachos, cupcakes, etc, and makes them over. Not only does she supply unique recipes, but a lot of the things she does are based on actual restaurant meals.

Example: I don't like Frito's but the BF would thoroughly enjoy this one.
BITE IT (the healthy recipe)

The Ceiling Fan VS The Chandelier

Alright, here is the dilemma. In the first floor guest room, we currently have a dinky white ceiling fan, and when I say dinky I mean it's blades can not be more then like 18 inches (and that's a stretch.) It doesn't have a globe on it, and it is strutting it's energy efficient bulb like it is going out of style (which we all know it's not). Don't believe me? see photos here

So now that I am giving this room some life, the BF and I have a disagreement. I want to put just a classic simple chandelier to make it feel a little more special (we have 4 bed rooms, each has a fan, and so does our living room. What can I say, we're fan people).
The BF wants a fan, because he says it's the room that gets the warmest in the summer. We don't have a ton of guests, so I feel that I shouldn't have to sacrifice my chandy for a few nights out of the year.

So I got my Google on and found a few pics that gave me something visual to compare.

Great Grandmother's Dresser

For my birthday I inherited this beautiful dresser from my Grandmother, and come to find out, it was once her mothers. It will have its new home in our master after it stops raining or warms up (side bar: why does that always happen? The warm days in winter are always plagued with rain, so all hope of getting outside in the fresh air flies right out the window?)
As of right now, it's sitting in our sun room.

Anyway, I thought I would post the before pics, and while I like the white, the paint job is a little shotty and it needs a few fill ins!

4 days without a post is very unlike me! But don't get too excited, this is just an update that things are progressing right along in the Guest Room and that is where I have been spending my time and energy. I don't really want to post any of the things I have done since I am a fan of seeing a big before and after!

But, I will share that I went through my Pottery Barn Bed and Bath issue last night and boy was it good timing. There is ALOT of gorgeous and inspiring things in there. Just happens to be the style I am shooting for in the GR. Here are a few of my favorites.

First, I noticed quite the trend with mirrors in this catalogue. They're in sets of 3, above headboards in a lot of these shots. LOVE.

Next, a few headboards that made me swoon :)

I'm having a secret love affair with shabby, teal tables here lately too.
Even though these are all gorg, the blue is by far my favorite!

Guest Room 1 Preview

If you've visited my blog before you know that I have 2 bedrooms on deck to be decorated. I have to admit... I'm nervous. I have no experience decorating or any REAL education about it. All I have are my two hands, a few bucks and some time.

This will be my first, full room "before and after" and although I can't wait to finish, I'm terrified to get started!

With that said, here is a look at the room in question from all 4 corners. This furniture is my BF's and TOTALLY not my style. But, I will do my best to work with what I have.
** sorry some of the pictures aren't great, when I was facing the window they darkened up on me. Pardon the mess, it was post Christmas chaos in that room, and bedding was coming off to be washed!

Going to be hard to part with the seriously small ceiling fan with an energry efficent bulb showing off all off it's energy saving goodness. Ha! It's funny though right?

I hope to have this room completely done by the end of February, but with the weather being so cold, I'm not positive the furniture will all be completed!

The Best Couponing Week of My Life

I want to preface this post by saying that I am not usually a “hoarder” in terms of my couponing stockpile. I don’t have enough toothpaste to last us until we’re 30. I don’t have enough toilet paper to TP every house in the Greater Triangle area. I don’t have enough canned goods to feed the Navy. I have a handful of things I got at great prices and I am fully satisfied with my methods.

BUT…

There comes a time when the stars align and the coupon God’s give you the IDEAL couponing week. I’m talking the Dream Team of couponing deals. Everyone’s perfect week is different, so others may not have thought this week was all that. I did. And a bag of chips.

Last thing, buying this many boxes of cereal doesn’t seem that crazy when you and your significant other can go through a box of it in 4 days. FYI Special K is our favorite. Stars=aligned. I did 98% of my shopping at Harris Teeter this week, with one transaction at each Walgreens and CVS.

Here’s how this will work. I am going to post the pictures and the total retail and the total cost to me. At the end of the post there will be a FULL tally of the items I bought and a grand total of actual retail, and what I paid out of pocket.

I am really feeling good about 2010. I have a feeling I will finally take the plunge and live up to the words I have written about room makeovers in our home. It's scary to commit time and money to something without knowing how it will turn out. But, you live and you learn I guess!

I am going to be getting the paint for our master bedroom Friday of this week, and ordering our new bed hopefully by the end of the month! I just have to make sure I am 100% on the bed before I take the plunge :)

I've also got a few things going on in our guest bedroom, and I am DYING to try out my new paint spray that the BF got me for Christmas but when it is 23 degrees outside, my slippers and blanket get the best of me. So, without a garage, I might have to wait until the weather gets above 50 again to head outside for any period of time.

Shout out to the BEST big brother in the world. He lives 20 minutes from the IKEA in Philly (while I live 3 hrs from the one in Charlotte) and he went on Saturday to get the Malm Queen bed that was on sale for $99 on Saturday only. After standing in line for some time, he got it J THANKS ERIC!!!!

So I have got 3 new beds on the brain (master and 2 guest rooms), and hopefully 1 completed room very soon!

Felt Fortune Cookies

I have a weakness for felt food (and mint chocolate chip icecream). Could there be anything cuter...(these photos are NOT mine... you couldn't pay me to try and sew all of that!)

Well, since I have been seeing cute Valentines Day crafts popping up all over blogland and beyond, I decided to give it a go. The problem... I don't sew (not by choice, just by lack of experience. I have a brand new machine that I can't use...sad). So after I saw the fortune cookies over at Martha Stewart who uses floral wire, I knew there had to be other options out there. While the floral wire method is probably the quickest, the wonderful tutorial I stumbled across on Treasures for Tots was just what I was looking for. Felt+hot glue= DONE!

And since I promised to try to remember to take pictures of the process not just the final outcome, here is an attempt at a tutorial!

What you will need:

-2 peices of felt for 12 cookies (.29 each at Michaels)-cut into 1 1/2 inch circles
-a glass or other tracing object
-hot glue gun (not pictured)
-paper (if you want to write fortunes on them), ribbon, anything else pretty and white to stick out the side.

After you have the circles cute out (believe it or not thats the hardest part) you have a couple different choices:
If you choose to not put any fortune inside you would proceed like this:

If you choose to put a fortune in, you have 1 of 2 choices: You can either glue it down so it is strickly decorative, then proceed glueing in the full semi circle above

OR you can glue the semi with a space left to slide a hand written fortune into it after you are through (not pictured sorry!) But I hope that's clear!

Afer you have the glue in place, fold over:

Next, from the midway point of the crease you just made, glue halfway down one side:

Fold over:

This part can be a little confusing to understand in text, but I'll try!

Take the top part of the little triangle (opposite side of the one you just glued down)

And fold it back kind of turning the cookie inside out-ish. You need 2 hands, so I couldn't get it on film (sorry!)
And that's it. You now have yourself a felt fortune cookie!

And of course you have to put them in something. I wanted to do some practice with cardstock on my Cricut so I just did a little something to the front of my container, but of course, your local craft store will have Valentines Day containers already made.

I don't know about you, but if I got this as a little gift from my BF, I would eat. it. up.

Finally

I finally broke out my Cricut for a round of practice yesterday. And while I love everything it can do, I can't wait for my Design Studio to get here! It's going to be so much easier and so much faster to do projects with it (a huge thanks to those who recommended it!)

So, on to my first project!

I bought come Con-Tact paper at WalMart the other day to do some glass etching (love), so that is what I did my practice cutting with. I used my Storybook cartridge and did different sized things to get a feel for the pressure/blade/speed combo.

Now that I started, I'm hooked. I wanted to etch everything in sight. But, I contained myself and went for a lonely old wine glass. I think it might have turned out better if it was on a thicker glass, or if my Armour Etch was newer (it was feeling a little grainy in the bottle). But it was still a fun little project to get a feel for my cricut without just sitting there cutting out a bunch of G's in different sizes.

I am the worst when I get excited, I forget all about taking pictures... do i feel a New Years Resolution in the making?

PS-Etched glass is the hardest thing I have had to photograph to date.

If you can't read it clearly it says "HOW MERLOT CAN YOU GO". Again, sorry for the terrible pictures. I was in a hurry and I took a bunch but there was an overhead light so the glare was B-A-D.

Do-it-Herself

I don't know if any of you have ever taken part in or even heard of the FREE program that Home Depot offers called "Do-it-herself Workshops". Basically it's a workshop where women get to learn how to do a bunch of awesome home repairs and updates without a man's help.

The first workshop of 2010 is on Thursday January 14th from 7pm-8:30pm. It will cover BATHROOM UPDATES! I won't be able to attend this event (boo) but I really hope some of you get the chance to.

Here is a couple things on the adgenda:
Installing a faucet
Replacing a showerhead
Installing a toilet

I am totally one of those people that gets excited about new years resolutions. And every year getting back in shape (not that I am out of shape, but after a month of cookies and mashed potatoes, I could use a few rounds on the treadmill) is one that I am most excited about. Me and the BF have started our "diet", and I use the "" because I like to think of it as a lifestyle change, but after only a week, I can hardly consider it that.
So my goal by 5/1 (just in time to slip into a bathing suit and head to the new beach house) is to lose 10 pounds. In the first week I have lost 4, and I think the mere change in eating has really helped, but the trips to the gym couldn't have hurt!

ANYWAY... enough about my personal issues, on to the point of the post...

Toast Life

I can't even believe I am writing a post about 2009 ending. When I was little and I used to say "this year went by so fast", people always responded with "the older you get the faster they go." Never has a truer statement been spoken.

So many wonderful things have happened this year in spite of what a terrible year 2009 has been for our country. I moved in with my wonderful boyfriend in April, and while there was an adjustment period (I am stubborn as an ox and as messy as a 6 year old. He is stubborn as an ox, and wants the house swept everyday... you get where I'm going with this?) I can't imagine my life taking place anywhere but this little old town. I started blogging in October and can't believe that anyone reads it, and stunned that 46 people (the greatest 46 people EVER) have chosen to come back and read again! This has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Not only are there so many of you out there that have inspired me with your talent, many of you have inspired me with the kindness of your words. I can hardly wait to get started on my to do list for 2010, but I am spending my last few days of vacation, relaxing, decompressing, and getting ready for what I know is going to be wonderful year!

I feel extremely lucky to not have cracked under the economic pressure and that I am still contributing to my savings account every pay check. I am thankful to have my own car, a roof over my head, and a feeling of security. My heart goes out to those who don't, and hope that the new year brings fortune to those who have been hit the hardest this year.

I hope you come back to see me in 2010, and I look forward to meeting those who I am not had the pleasure of doing so just yet. Each and every one of you has had an impact on my life, and for that I thank you!!
